New Dream Week - Day 3 - Family

It's New Dream Week (Rapunzel x Eugene) over on Tumblr. Here's my submission for Day 3.

It had been a long, difficult process. Eugene wasn’t sure where the nursemaid or physician were for most of it. Especially the most important bit.

On the other hand, there was something magical about being the only one there. He’d been ready to run from the room and ask for help, but she’d clung to his arm and begged him to stay. How could he say no to that?

But he hadn’t know what to do! How to be a midwife! At some point, he’d realized their coming child was going to need something soft to be wrapped in, and so he’d removed his doublet for the job. How long ago was that?

Help had arrived just as she was crowning, and by then, he’d gone into possessive father mode. When it had once terrified him, he now refused to let anyone else do the job. Once the head was free, it had been a matter of moments before the tiny person stopped being a moving guessing game and started being a baby.

And now, here they were. His wife and his daughter, newborn. The trio was exhausted, but that didn’t matter. They were together. They were happy. They were family.
